Sacred Geometry
Mandalas of Creation
Recorded Class from June 2020
An introduction to constructing mandalas based on the study of Sacred Geometry.
From a honeycomb to the bud of a flower to the neural network of the brain, all forms of life are composed of intricate patterns underlined by a basic matrix. Everything in the universe is connected. Through Sacred Geometry we can trace patterns of Creation and by contemplating it we can relax our sense of unity in the perfection of chaos and order.
In the Across the Silk Road series we will learn the principles of geometric construction and how to combine repeating motifs to create a beautiful tessellation as it is done with big panels and tiles.
This course is a continuation of our last course on the Silk Road, however it is not required to have attended Part One. Each class is instructed from beginning to end and any one can join, with or without any prior experience in geometry.
Each class we will choose a planet to talk about its qualities according to occidental astrology as well as some scientific characteristics to consider, such as its orbit as we create our mandala starting from a blank piece of paper, constructing dots and lines and finishing it with water color pencils.
In this course, Tiffani Gyatso will give an introduction to the history of how these symbols became integrated into Buddhism from India and how they are used today.
This course is open to any person who is curious, and would like to learn more about Tibetan symbolism and who is ready to give up fear around knowing how to draw and simply have fun with colors giving a meaning to one’s personal self discovery.
In Across the Silk Road we will learn the principles of geometric construction and how to combine repeating motifs to create a beautiful tessellation as it is done with big panels and tiles. All mandalas are inspired by the deep wisdom and vision of the Middle Eastern traditions, which is elaborated in its architecture and various expressions of art from Morocco all the way to India.
